Media and Body Image

The Past and Current Situation

Comparison between body image 50 years ago and now.

Back in the 1950s, the typical figure of models were 5'8" and 132lbs.
Celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield were curvy and had beautiful hour-glass figures.
Curves were saught after and the pinnacle of beauty not only in the 50's, but today as well.

Above is the 50's look, compare to below picture of today's look!

Today liposuction and diets are advertised everywhere. Thin is in and if you don't fit the construct, you're unattractive.
By today's standards, Marilyn Monroe would be considered "fat."
The models shown on the faces of media are computer altered and air-brushed to abnormal perfection. It isn't real.

This is the look of today, not that different from the 50's!
